MND is proud to announce that faculty member, Dr. Matthew Fletcher, has been awarded the 2025 Ohio Catholic School Educator of the Year: Lumen Fidei (Light of Faith) Award. The Lumen Fidei award is sponsored by the University of Dayton’s Center for Catholic Education and honors an outstanding educator in a Catholic school in Ohio.
In teaching Physics at MND for the past 14 years, Dr. Fletcher has embodied the spirit of Catholic education by creating a respectful, joyful, and faith-centered environment that invites students to explore or deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ. His teaching goes beyond academics; he integrates Catholic values into his lessons, promoting a compassionate and ethical approach to learning and living that resonates with his students.
Dr. Fletcher’s expertise and passion create a dynamic learning environment where he encourages students to think critically and find solutions independently. He blends direct instruction with interactive problem-solving sessions, walking around the room to address individual needs and tailoring explanations for better understanding.
Dr. Fletcher demonstrates a deep commitment to his students. He consistently makes himself available for questions outside of class time, reinforcing his dedication to their understanding and success. His ability to adapt his teaching to meet diverse learning needs, engage students in critical thinking, and inspire them to pursue deeper knowledge exemplifies what it means to be an innovative educator. He frequently leads Kairos and ROPes senior retreats, providing students with guidance and spiritual inspiration during pivotal moments in their lives.
Dr. Fletcher’s impact extends beyond the classroom and is evident through his contributions to the broader community. He collaborates with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on their Water Lab project, bringing his engineering expertise to support global sustainability efforts. Within the Saint Margaret of York parish, he actively participates as a Vincentian through St. Vincent DePaul. He also finds time to volunteer with the non-profit organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace, where he helps provide beds for children in need.
MND Principal, Mrs. Karen Day shares, “Dr. Fletcher is a talented teacher who exudes compassion, goodness and attention to the individual. He is a mirror reflection of our good God.”
